Rotterdam Zoo presented its adoption program to local companies on the 30th of June. With this program the Zoo hopes to gain extra income, needed to compensate for the substantial decrease of Rotterdam’s annual financial support in five years to come.
Previously Van Leeuwen was already discussing potential sponsorship with Rotterdam Zoo. There are many similarities to be seen between Van Leeuwen, Rotterdam Zoo and lion Kumar. Rotterdam Zoo and Van Leeuwen have been in existence for many years, and are well-known companies in the Rotterdam area and beyond. The lion symbolizes strength and leadership, qualities not unknown to Van Leeuwen in her markets.
Joop Sassen, Member of the Board and CEO of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group: “The head office as well as one of the largest companies of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group are situated in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands. As a company residing in the same region, we hold the Rotterdam Zoo in high esteem. Our participation in the adoption program helps to support the Zoo and its nature projects. We hope that many companies will follow our example. Our company’s name ‘Van Leeuwen’ – Dutch for lions – makes our choice for a lion obvious. Kumar, a male Asian lion, is a powerful and energetic leader of its group, in the same way that Van Leeuwen is leading as industrial service provider specialized in the supply of steel pipes and pipe and tube components.”
